Kohima Police arrested three alleged underground cadres in two operations and launched an investigation into extortion targeting businesses.

DIMAPUR — Kohima Police arrested three persons allegedly associated with underground groups in two separate operations, including two suspects accused of involvement in extortion activities targeting business establishments in the state capital.
According to a press release issued by the PRO, Kohima Police, the first operation was launched on June 22 at around 4 pm following reliable information about the movement of a person allegedly linked to a self-styled underground faction in the Razhü Point area under the jurisdiction of North Police Station.
During the operation, police apprehended Cizoto Veswuh (47), who is reportedly a captain of the NNC/FGN (Thinoselie Group). Police recovered one information slip allegedly issued by a Deputy Chaplee of the FGN and one FGN receipt from his possession.
The accused, along with the seized items, was brought to North Police Station for necessary legal action. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
In a separate case, Kohima Police initiated action after receiving information about alleged extortion demands being made to shops and business establishments under the jurisdiction of South Police Station.

Preliminary inquiry revealed that several business owners had reportedly received extortion demands, creating fear among the affected persons and discouraging them from lodging formal complaints.
Considering the seriousness of the matter and its impact on public order, police registered a suo motu case at South Police Station.
During the course of the investigation, police apprehended Viketouzo (46), reportedly serving as Kilonser and CAO of the Angami Region under the NSCN/GPRN-K (Michael), and John Magh (39), reportedly a brigadier of the same organisation.
Police said further investigation is underway to ascertain the full extent of the alleged extortion activities, identify other persons involved, and collect supporting evidence.
Kohima Police reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of citizens and providing a secure environment for businesses to operate.
It also urged members of the public to report incidents of extortion, intimidation or unlawful demands to the nearest police station, assuring that all information received would be treated with strict confidentiality.
