Kohima Police arrests a 71-year-old NNC/FGN cadre for extortion at PR Hill and seizes cash, demand slips and a vehicle.

DIMAPUR — The Kohima Police apprehended an individual for demanding money in the name of an underground organisation at the PR Hill commercial area on December 9.
According to a press release, the police received credible information on December 8 regarding an individual reportedly approaching shopkeepers at the PR Hill commercial area and demanding money.
Police teams initiated action to verify the report. A South Police Station duty personnel along with the District Intelligence Branch (DIB) was dispatched to the location. Although the suspect had left the area, plainclothes personnel were deployed, and search operations were initiated.
On December 9, a joint team of the South Police Station and the Anti-Extortion Team (South) apprehended the individual from the PR Hill area near the Jack & Jill showroom.

The apprehended person has been identified as Mathungo Ovung (71), a "self-styled deputy kilonser" of the NNC/FGN. He is a resident of Lerie, Kohima, and a permanent resident of Phiro village, Wokha district.
The police seized INR 4,200 in cash, a mobile phone, three demand slips purportedly of the FGN, and a Maruti Ritz (White) along with vehicle documents and an ignition key.
The individual has been taken into custody, and a suo motu case has been registered at Kohima South Police Station. Further investigation is underway to determine any additional links or activities associated with the case.
The Kohima Police urged all citizens and business establishments to report any extortion-related incidents or suspicious activities to the nearest police station or the police helpline.
