Dimapur, October 3 : Acting on specific input that one Manipur-bound truck driver had been kidnapped by some miscreants and was kept somewhere in New Secretariat area, Kohima, the Kohima Police apprehended one of the three kidnappers and rescued the driver on Sunday, Kohima Sr. Superintendent of Police Joseph Hesso said in a release today. The other two kidnappers managed to escape.
The kidnappers demanded a ransom of Rs 10 lakh for his safe release, the release said.
On receipt of the information, the release said, North PS personnel launched a search and rescue operation engaging plain-clothe personnel and traced the location of the kidnappers to a place near Thizama. Accordingly, the police team swung into action and apprehended one of the three kidnappers while the other two managed to escape and secured the release of the victim, the release said. The arrested kidnapper has been dentified as ‘SS’ Lt. Kewepe Wetsah (30), FGN, son of Welonyi Wetsah, Zapami village under Pfutsero PS in Phek district, the release said.
