Kohima observes National Statistics Day

Dimapur, June 29 (EMN): The Directorate of Economics and Statistics Nagaland, Kohima observed the 12th National Statistics Day under the theme “Quality assurance in official statistics” in its conference hall in Kohima on June 29.
Speaking on the theme, Home Commissioner Nagaland, Ramakrishnan said that the National Statistics Day is being celebrated to commemorate the contributions made by the great statistics man, PC Mahalanobis in the field of development and growth of the country.
Ramakrishnan said for any policy and program formulation, the statistics data furnished by the department is required.
Lauding the department for doing an important job in the field of nation building, the Home commissioner called on them to present accurate and reliable data so that the state would be benefited in policy formulation.
He further highlighted the contributions made by PC Mahalanobis in the field of statistics and economic planning.
Secretary and OSD, Kevileno Angami in her opening remark said that the National Statistics Day is being observed every year to create public awareness among people about the importance of statistics in daily life and in the process of planning and development. Stating that the celebration is to make aware of the importance of statistics, Kevileno challenged the department to collect accurate data and provide quality information to the government and the users so that proper decision could be taken in policy formulation.
Also, the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO), Field Operations Division (FOD), Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation Govt.of India, Regional office Kohima, observed the 12thNational Statistics Day along with the rest of the country on June 29 at its office in Kohima.
Main events of the celebration were as follows:
