Kohima, Jan. 29 (EMN): The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP), Kohima region, launched its election campaign on Jan. 29. The launch of the campaign coincided with the inauguration of the NDPP's Kohima regional office at Legacy Complex in Kohima.
The NDPP's flag was hoisted by Menuovilie Kesiezie, the vice-president of the party. All the party's intending NDPP candidates from Kohima region, except for Lok Sabha members Neiphiu Rio, attended the programme.
Speaking at the function, Kesiezie said that the NDPP was formed to set up a strong party here in the state following the division within the Naga People’s Front's (NPF) legislators and party workers. He told the organisation's members to reach out to the people. He has expressed hope that the party would come to power with Neiphiu Rio as the chief minister.
“As for matters concerning solution, the NDPP will abide by the decision and desire of the Naga people. However, as of now, let us gear up and be prepared to face the coming elections. We need a strong party here in the state with stable leadership,” Kesiezie said.
Intending NDPP candidate from 8-Western Angami assembly constituency (AC), Kevisekho Kruse, in his address said he joined the NDPP to support Rio’s leadership. “The NDPP is an unpolluted and an untainted party. And therefore, I look ahead with hope that the Naga people will vote NDPP to power,” he said. He has urged the party's workers strive hard to 'win the hearts of the people.'
Dr. Kekhrie Yhome, who will be contesting against Khriehu Liezietsu from 10-Northern Angami assembly constituency, said that the NDPP was the 'hope of the future and will deliver for the Naga people.'
Former minister Dr. Neikiesalie Kire, who will contest from 9-Kohima town assembly constituency, appealed to the party's workers to reach out to the people irrespective of which party they were of, to 'convince the people to join the NDPP party and form the next government.'
Others who spoke at the programme included Vikho-o Yhoshü (14-Southern Angami AC), Zale Neikha (14-Southern Angami AC) and Deo Nukhu, intending NDPP candidate from Chizami AC in Phek district.
The dedicatory prayer for the new office was pronounced by Neisakuolie Mere, pastor, Central Baptist Church, Kohima; NDPP Kohima region's president Avio Tetso delivered the welcome address. The vote of thanks was said by Theyiekielie Tachü, advisor to NDPP, Kohima region.
