[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he youth who was found brutally murdered on Monday in Kohima ran a small shop and was taking care of his aged parents, community leaders said on Tuesday. He was a good natured man and was in no way involved in any undesirable activities, they said. On March 30, police personnel found a dead body from the jungles below the road connecting Secretariat and Meriema village.
Sources said the hands of the victim were tied from behind while a noose was found tied around his legs which wound around the neck. Sources said that his body and face bore extensive injuries that his family members could not recognize him.Various community organizations have demanded that the police authorities hunt down the criminals responsible for the murder of the youth, Tepumecie Lcho of Viswema village by unknown criminals on the night of March 29.
The union of Viswema people residing in Kohima (Viswema Kewhira Kelhouko Krotho) expressed deep pain and shock at the gruesome murder of Tepumecie Lcho.
“Tepumecie lived with his aged parents in the Agriculture colony at Kohima and took care of the family by running a small shop. To the best of our knowledge, his family members, neighbors and friends he was a good natured young man who was liked by all in his neighborhood and had no involvement in any undesirable activities,” the Viswema Kewhira Kelhouko Krotho stated.
Even on the night or the previous days before he was murdered he showed no indications of worry nor expressed apprehensions of any trouble to either his parents or family members. We have learned from his family that he received a phone call around 10 p.m. summoning him to come to some place. The conversation with the caller was also reported to be friendly and he had said that he would come at once. That was the last the family saw him alive.
“Based on all these we fail to understand why he was killed and that too in such a horrific manner. He was found dead with his hands, legs and neck bound tight with ropes with dreadful injuries on his body and face. The injuries on his face were so brutal that even his family members failed to recognize him immediately.”
The Viswema Kewhira Kelhouko Krotho expressed faith that the investigation will soon reveal why he was murdered and by whom. “We render our profound gratitude to the police personnel and the citizens of Merema village for bringing back the body of our son. We also express our deepest sense of sorrow to the aged parents and all the family members of Tepumecie. We grieve with them over their immeasurable loss.”
The organization also stated that it was incensed over the ‘unexplainable murder and the manner in which it was carried out. This heinous and abominable act upon Tepumecie is also an affront to the people of Viswema. We will not tolerate such barbarism nor take it lying down and we shall see that this case is solved and the perpetrators justly punished according to the law.’
Likewise, the Viswema village Youth Organization issued a press release on Tuesday demanding that they find the culprits and award them punishment. The organization termed the criminal act “cowardice” and urged the law enforcing authorities ‘to book and penalized the culprit with benefitting punishment.’ The youth organization has conveyed condolences to the bereaved family.
Likewise, the Viswema Students’ Union issued a note on Tuesday condemning the brutal murder. The union has demand that the law enforcing agencies book and ‘penalize the culprits with befitting punishment for such act of cowardice.’ The police authorities are urged to capture the culprits at the earliest. The Viswema Students’ Union has also expressed sympathy and condolences to the bereaved family.
