The programme was organised in collaboration with the Kohima Municipal Council (KMC), the IPR stated in its updates on Saturday. The social work was conducted as part of the systematic voters' education and electoral participation program (Sveep) campaign themed on the slogan 'No to plastics, yes to clean elections' and another programme—commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the WWII Battle of Kohima. The IPR stated that the deputy commissioner of Kohima, Anoop Khinchi briefed the participants. He said that the cleanliness drive was organised to spread awareness about waste management ‘which is causing a problem to the environment for our future generations.’ The event was organised also to ‘motivate voters to ethically vote for their rights to have clean election,’ he was quoted as having said. "If we do not choose our representative properly then we also have problem throughout our life." As part of the programme, the district’s theme song titled "Be the one," was released too. The song conveys the message to each individual to be the one ‘who will not be sold but will vote consciously and judiciously.’ The officer urged the younger generations to vote right in order to have a bright future bright “and also to keep Kohima free of plastic.” The officer administered to the participants the pledge for 'clean election.' A group of likeminded youths formed as ‘The Green Team’ also participated in the cleanliness drive with KMC personnel to clear plastic waste around the “World War II tank area” and Mohonkola areas. The team has been contributing their services to advocating for healthy waste management since October 2018. As part of the Kohima district Sveep campaign, a series of seminars and publicity programmes based on the slogan 'No to plastic, yes to clean elections' has been organised through the mediums of music, posters, and cleanliness activities. More programmes are coming up before the polling day too, the IPR added.
