Kohima, Jan.23: Khouchiezie, the Kohima Local Ground. got a much needed facelift under the initiative of the Kohima Village Youth Organisation (KVYO). The ground, with a renovated rostrum and galleries, was dedicated at a brief function this evening.
Parliamentary secretary of Youth Resources & Sports and chairman Kohima District Planning and Development Board (DPDB), Khriehu Liezietsu unveiled a plaque marking the facelift in the presence of DC Kohima Rajesh Saudararajan, former DC Kohima Rovilatuo Mor, KMC administrator Kovi Meyase, NCSU president Pele Khezhie, Kohima Village Council (KVC) executives and its sub organisations.
In his address, Liezietsu lauded KVYO for carrying out the renovation works and urged upon the members of the organisation to continue doing yeoman services to the citizens of Kohima. He also remarked that KVYO should step forward, co-operate and support the government in the development activities of the state capital, more so, as Kohima has already been declared a “Smart City.”
KVYO president, Medozhatuo Rutsa acknowledged all the donors who helped the organisation to carry out the renovation works. Hoping that it would be an eye opener for other organisations, clubs and associations to care for public properties and create sense of ownership, the youth leader said KVYO constructed the VIP dais, renovated and painted the rostrums and toilets. It also levelled the ground surface and painted the galleries, dug up the underground drainage and repaired the drainage system, put up a new electricity wiring on the ground floors rooms, re-fabricated both the gates and painted them, he informed.
He also mentioned that KVYO has decorated the wall on the rostrum with the picture of Angami traditional gate and the frontal top of the rostrum decorated in the style of the Angami traditional house.
Putting up a four-point request to the DC Kohima, who is also chairman of Kohima District Sports Council (KDSC), KVYO president said there should be laid-down rules and regulations while allotting the ground to various organisations, fix a timing to play in morning and evening, make sure that the ground staff be present during practice time and also that KVYO be made a member of KDSC.
DC Kohima Rajesh Soudararajan also lauded the KVYO for the works done in the local ground and assured to look into the request given by the KVYO. Former DC Kohima, Rovilatuo Mor and KVC Chairman, Medoselhou Keretsu also briefly addressed the gathering and congratulated the KVYO for the commendable works.
