Kohima DC B Henok Buchem orders action against permit violators and unattended vehicles under the Motor Vehicles Act.

DIMAPUR — Deputy Commissioner of Kohima B Henok Buchem has issued an order directing that all commercial vehicles operating within Kohima district must possess valid permits for operation and conduct of business.
According to the order, many commercial vehicles in Kohima district have been found operating without valid permits, in violation of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and other applicable laws.
All commercial vehicle owners and operators have been directed to renew their permits. The order further stated that enforcement agencies have been requested to conduct verification drives and take strict action against vehicles operating without valid permits. The order came into effect immediately.
In another notice, the DC stated that it has been observed with serious concern that a significant number of off-road and unattended vehicles are parked indiscriminately along the national highways and town roads within Kohima.
According to a DIPR report, the notice stated that this constitutes not only a serious public nuisance but also a traffic hazard and poses a risk to road safety.

Therefore, in exercise of powers conferred under relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and other applicable laws, all concerned vehicle owners have been directed to remove off-road and unattended vehicles within seven days from November 4.
After the expiry of the dateline, the district authorities shall confiscate all such non-compliant vehicles from the public roads. All seized vehicles shall be towed and transported to a designated yard at the expense and risk of the owners.
The district authorities shall not be responsible for any damage, loss, or theft of vehicle parts or belongings during the seizure, towing, or subsequent storage period. A claims period of 30 days shall be notified for owners to claim their vehicles after payment of applicable towing charges and penalties as per law.
Any unclaimed vehicle after the stipulated claims period shall be disposed of through auction as “unclaimed property” in accordance with the relevant provisions of the law and procedure. The general public has been requested to extend full cooperation with the district authorities for the successful implementation of the order.
Failure to comply shall attract penal action as per relevant provisions of the law.
