Kohima, June 24 (EMN): The second edition of Kohima District Inter-School Football Tournament will commence from Monday at Khuochiezie ground in Kohima. The inaugural function of the championship, scheduled to be held at 1.30 pm, will be graced by MLA Khriehu Liezietsu as patron.
The tournament is being organised by Royal Club Kohima in collaboration with Department of School Education and Youth Resources & Sports, and will be played till July 9. 30 teams -25 private schools and five government schools- within Kohima will be vying for the championship title.
Besides trophies, citations and certificates, the winning team will walk away with INR 70,000 while the runner-up will be awarded a cash prize of INR 40,000. The two losing semi-finalists will receive INR 20,000 each. In addition, INR 5000 each will be awarded to the player of the tournament, the ‘best cheering school’ and the best disciplined team, the organisers have informed.
The organisers also stated to allocate INR 1000 as incentive to every team during the match for refreshments. Minister's Hill Baptist Higher Secondary School will take on Khedi Baptist Higher Second in the opening match of the tournament on Monday following the inaugural function. Three matches will be played daily from Tuesday onwards with the first match starting at 11 am.
The participating teams are divided into two pools: ‘Pool A’ consists of The Vineyard School, Bethel HSS, TMGHSS, Don Bosco HSS, Mt. Hermon HSS, Loyola School, Grace HSS, Christ King HSS, Don Bosco Tseminyu, Holy Family HSS, Charity School, St. Paul Phesama, Mt. Sinai HSS, Dainty Buds School and Rüzhükhrie GHSS, while teams under ‘Pool B’ include; GHS Rüsoma, St. Mary's Cathedral HSS, MHBHSS, Khedi Baptist HSS, Baptist High, Chandmari HSS, BM School Jotsoma, Mezhür HSS, GHSS Jotsoma, Stella HSS, Northfield, Dr. Neilhouzhu GHSS, CD King HSS Jotsoma, Mt. Carmel and G. Rio.
