Dimapur, Sep. 27 (EMN): With an endeavour to raise responsiveness on conservation of forests and livelihood security, an awareness programme was organized by Kohima Forest Division on Sep. 22 under the livelihood programme which was aimed at strengthening the capacity and providing financial incentives and assets to women groups, Self Help Groups (SHG) and youth groups so as to secure their livelihood.
During the programme DFO Kohima, Rongsenlemla Imchen, IFS highlighted on the importance of the role of SHGs with regard to forests and wild life protection in relation to livelihood security, stated a DIPR news bulletin. She thanked the SHGs for their active role in natural resource management and also stressed on the significance of the sustainability of their activities on income generation.
The participating SHG members thanked the department for the initiatives and assured all indispensable cooperation to the department with regard to environmental protection.
The Kohima Forest Division, as a part of the initiative, distributed plastic chairs and solar lamps to SHG’s under Kohima (Kigwema) and Tseminyu (Sendenyu) to strengthen their capacities.
The DIPR report further stated that livelihood initiative programme is in its 4rd phase which was kick-started in August 2017 covering several SHG’s involved in natural resource management.
