KOHIMA, NOVEMBER 17: The 4th Kohima district volleyball tournament got underway at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima on Thursday.
A total of 17 teams, including men and women, are taking part in the tournament. The event has been organized by the Kohima District Volleyball Association (KDVA) under the theme “Transcending through sports.”
The preliminary round matches for both men and women were conducted today; eight men’s teams have qualified for the quarters.
The teams which have made it to the quarters are Kiruphema Youth Organisation, Tama Youth Society, Mima, Shürho Mountain Club, Kiruphema Students’ Union, Prancers Club, Phesama, Super Spikers Club, Kohima, Zenith Club, Kezo Town and Kezieke Youth Organisation. The quarterfinal matches will begin on Friday from 9 am onwards.In women’s event, Tiema-Khe, Kidima and Mystics Club, Hospital Colony, Kohima, have made it to the final.
Earlier, gracing the inaugural function as the chief guest, deputy commissioner of Kohima, Rovilato Mor encouraged the players to strive hard in order to reach the top. He also advised them to be discipline and further to restrain themselves from anything that may harm their sporting career.
Meanwhile, KDVA officials have informed that the three-day event could be shortened to two days, citing reasons that some of the registered teams failed to turn up for the competition. It was informed that three men’s teams and one women team could not make their participation as they had to participate in another tournament.
It may be mentioned that the KDVA tournament, which was earlier scheduled to be held from November 7-9, had to be postponed due to inclement weather.
