Dimapur, May 7 (EMN): In connection with Weekly Iron Folic Supplements (WIFS), Mission Indradhanush and Routine Immunization, Kohima District Task Force held a meeting on May 3 at the DC office chamber, Kohima under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner (DC), Rajesh Soundararajan, IAS.
Dr. Avile Zao, DPO (RCH-UIP), introduction of activities being carried out under WIFS, MI and RI by DPO (RCH-UIP). She also informed and gave report on the background and concept of WIFS.
Dr. Avile Zao said, WIFS objectives Iron stores in the adolescent population (10-19) years address nutritional anaemia and the targeted groups are adolescent girls and boys in government aided/municipal schools of class 6 to 12. She also informed about intervention and strategy with coverage approach comprising of fixed day approach – Monday as National WIFS Day, National De-worming month – February an August.
In this regard, DC informed all the concerned to mobilise the parents, ASHAs and AWWs to cooperate with the health workers in their respective areas. He also expressed the need to create awareness and sensitise the public on the importance of WIFS. Active participation and support from the concerned departments, NGOs, community leaders, ward councils, religious institutions is required for the successful implementation of the programme, DC said.
He also stated that CMO should draft a letter addressing the Commissioner Secretary (Health & Family Welfare) for implementing WIFS programme at the District Level.
The administration will also take part and carry-out necessary action for WIFS programme, he informed.
SMO, Dr. Sheila Longkumer (WHO) gave a brief report on Mission Indradhanush and Routine Immunization with comparative study of last MI phase I, III & IV under Kohima District.
Project Officer, UNDP, Rajesh Khartu Monsang highlighted on eVIN vaccine stock update which consisted of a series of storage and transport links, designed to keep vaccine at recommended temperature from the point of manufacture till it reached the target beneficiary.
In this regard to routine immunization, DC stressed on the need of calculating the demand of due listing of beneficiaries by ASHAs and have comparative survey/study with lists of the AWWs.
