- DIMAPUR — To assess
the progress of Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) and Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in
Kohima district, a review meeting of the District Water and Sanitation Mission
(DWSM) was held at the conference hall of the deputy commissioner’s (DC) office
on Thursday.
- During the meeting, the concerned department made a
presentation highlighting the ongoing initiatives under JJM and SBM(G). It was
reported that 32 out of the total 62 villages under JJM in Kohima district have
been successfully completed, while with regard to SBM(G), 40 out of the 63
habitations have been declared model villages.
- The department informed that for a village to be recognised
as a model village, every household must have a compost pit, a task to be
undertaken by the Rural Development department. Currently, eight villages in
Kohima district have been officially certified as model village, stated a DIPR
report.
- The deputy commissioner of Kohima, Kumar Ramnikant, has
urged all participating departments to extend their full cooperation in implementing
JJM effectively. He emphasised the importance of waste management at the
village level and encouraged the practice of waste segregation and the need to
spread awareness about proper waste disposal.
- He further stressed the need for collective efforts to
intervene at all levels and work towards transforming more villages into model
villages, reinforcing the district’s commitment to providing clean water and
sanitation for all.
