Kohima District Open Volleyball Tournament: Stage set for championship matches

KOHIMA — MADFA Club Dimapur and Charmers Club Kohima on Wednesday secured semi-finals berths in women volleyball, joining the Senapati Sporting Club and Peren District Volleyball Association, at the ongoing 10th Kohima District Open Volleyball Tournament at IG Stadium.

MADFA (women) edged past Phek District Volleyball Association with a 2-1 set victory in the first match of the day. After suffering 05-25 setback in the first set, the MADFA bounced back to claim the other sets 25-13 and 25-22.

In the other women’s quarter finals match, Charmers Club Kohima defeated Mystic Club Kohima 25-23 and 25–22 to set a match with Senapati Sporting Club in the first women's semi-final.

MADFA will take on Peren District Volleyball Association in second semi-finals.

In the men’s category league matches, Senapati Sporting Club defeated Lhisemia Thinuo Kohima 25-17, 25–13 the first quarter-final match, before emerging victorious against Sumi United Dimapur 25-19, 25-21 in the other quarter-final match, to find a place in the semi-finals.

In the second quarter-final, Kiruphema Youth Organisation - A defeated Kiruphema Youth Organisation – B 25-21, 25-20 before losing to Japfüphiki Volleyball Club 25-23, 18-25 and 25-21. However, they earned a spot in the semi-finals by virtue of securing the runners-up position in their group during the preliminary rounds and quarter-finals.

Sumi United Dimapur secured a spot in the semi-finals by defeating Team Ace Kohima 25-22 and 25-20 in the third quarter-final. The latter defeated Lhisemia Thino Kohima 25-21, 19-25, 25-19 in the other quarter-finals match but failed to find a semi-final after running short in points.

In the sixth quarter-finals match, Shürho Mountain Club Kigwema defeated Kiruphema Youth Organisation – B 25-18 and 25–17.

In the men's semi-finals, Japfüphiki Volleyball Club will now face Sumi United Dimapur, while Senapati Sporting Club will clash with Kiruphema Youth Organisation – A.

The semi-finals for both men and women will kick off at 9 am on Thursday, before the championship matches at 2 pm on the same day.

The champions in both categories will receive a cash prize of INR 80,000 each, while the runners-up will take home INR 50,000, and the semi-finalists INR 15,000 each. The Best Spiker and Best Setter in both the categories will be awarded INR 5,000 each.

Prasielie Pienyü, Chairman of Nagaland Handloom and Handicraft Development Corporation Ltd, will be the guest of honour for the final matches.

The three-day tournament themed "Transcending through sports," is organised by the Department of Youth Resources and Sports in collaboration with Kohima District Volleyball Association (KDVA).
