Dimapur, June 21 (EMN): The 2nd edition of the Kohima District Inter-School Football Tournament will commence from June 25 and go on till July 9, Khuociezie local ground in Kohima.
Informing this at a press conference at Khuociezie local ground, the President of Royal Club Kohima, Kevizatuo Miachio said that the fifteen day tournament is jointly organised by Royal Club Kohima, School Education department and department of Youth Resources & Sports.
This 2nd edition of the Kohima District Inter-School Football Tournament will be participated by thirty schools (5 government schools, 25 private schools).
The champion team will get INR.70, 000/- along with trophy and certificates while runner-up and semi finalists will pocket INR.50,000/- and INR.20,000/ respectively. In addition, there INR.5,000/- each will be awarded to best disciplined team, best cheering school and player of the tournament, said the organizers.
All the matches will be played as per the international football rules and regulations.
The participating thirty teams have been divided into Pool A and Pool B, while the first match will be played between Minister Hill Baptist Hr. Sec School and G Rio School on Monday, June 25.
The first edition of the Kohima District Inter School Football Tournament witnessed the participation of 24 schools and Ruzhukhie Government Higher Secondary School, Kohima is the defending champion.
Giving a brief highlight about the Royal Club Kohima, Kevizatuo Miachio said that Royal Club Kohima has been trying to promote the game of football and trying to bring best players of the country since 1988. He said that the club had made it possible for many of Naga players to play against some of the most reputed teams in India such as Mohun Bagan, Mohammadans, Punjab Police etc from across India through the Royal Gold Cup.
Miachio said that the Royal Cold Cup is the only AIFF affiliated and the only All India Football tournament in Nagaland till the 22nd Royal Gold Cup, 2013.
In this connection, he disclosed that the Royal Club Kohima had decided to focus on the development of football in Nagaland from the grass-root level by launching the 1st edition of Kohima District Inter School Football Tournament in the year 2017.
Meanwhile, a two-minute silence was also observed during the presser in memory of Xavier Rutsa - senior journalist and a well-known football aficionado - who passed away recently in Kohima.
The general secretary of the club, Keneido Peseyie, while expressing sadness over the sudden demise of Xavier Rutsa, said that Rutsa was an indispensable part of Royal Club through his writing in football and added that his sudden demise has created a vacuum.
