Kohima, June 27 (EMN): Loyola Higher Secondary School Jakhama (LHSSJ), Baptist Mission School Jotsoma (BMSJ) and Grace Higher Secondary School (GHSS) booked their berths in the pre-quarterfinal rounds after winning their respective matches on Wednesday at the ongoing 2nd Kohima District Inter-School Football Tournament at the Khuochiezie ground in Kohima.
In the first match of the day, LHSSJ edged out Mt. Hermon Higher Secondary School (MHHSS) by 2-0. Kevizayie Khieya opened an early account for Loyola by scoring a goal four minutes into the first half while Mecievi Khieya scored the second goal in the 53rd minute through a header to make it a 2-0 win over MHSS.
In the second match, Baptist Mission School Jotsoma (BMSJ) beat Mezhür Higher Secondary School (MHSS) 2-1. Playing a closely contested match, both teams remained locked in a goalless draw in the first half. But during the second half, Peteneizo of MHSS scored the first goal in 45th minutes, which was equalised by BMSJ barely two minutes later through Kedosie Nagi. A free kick to BMSJ after MHSS goalkeeper Kilong Zalo was awarded a yellow card for overlapping his boundary to catch the ball, sealed the deal for the BMSJ as striker Nagi hit home through it.
Playing the third match, Christ King Higher Secondary School (CKHSS) took the lead over opponents Grace Higher Secondary School (GHSS) after skipper Ruovizhalie scored through a free-kick in 44th minute. The second half remained goalless till the final whistle.
However, in a dramatic turn of event, one of the players of CKHSS was reported to be a teacher and not a student, which was a clear violation of the eligibility criteria of the players of the tournament. Therefore, as a consequence of violation of the tournament bye-laws, the tournament committee ruled to disqualify CKHSS and allow GHSS to proceed to the next round of play.
