- KOHIMA — The
Kohima District Cricket Association (KDCA) on Friday inaugurated three cricket
practice pitches and nets at three locations in Kohima district - Kohima
Science College ground, D Khel ground and TM School ground.
- During the inauguration of the practice pitch at Kohima
Science College ground, secretary of Nagaland Cricket Association (NCA) Anilo
Khing, updated that the NCA, in partnership with the district associations, has
set up a total of more than 80 cricket practice pitches.
- He informed that NCA got full affiliation from the BCCI in
2018, and for a year the BCCI managed directly from the centre. But, after
coming to know that the state was competent to handle its own affairs, the BCCI
handed over the whole management to the state association.
- Khing also said that the NCA, into its 6th year, has been
participating in all the BCCI sanctioned tournaments across the country.
- He disclosed that the NCA is managing eight state teams
(four male and four female teams), and a total of 120 players are being
benefitted.
- He also said that cricket is the ultimate game, not only as
a sport but as an industry and profession, where players and supports staffs
benefit from the game.
- The special guest for the programme, Temjenwabang, Principal
of Kohima Science College, expressed optimism that the new facility will
fine-tune the skills of the players.
- Keviselhou Sekhose, KDCA advisor, also shared that Kohima
has total of eight practice pitches in various locations. He said that these
pitches have been an important part of cricket, especially at the grassroots
level.
- President of KDCA, Menguvilie Sakhrie, said that the “nets
can be the first step to a cricket journey.” He also highlighted the activities
of KDCA during 2024 season and also upcoming activities and tournaments.
