- DIMAPUR — The Kohima District Chess Association (KDCA) commemorated
its 10th foundation day at the Nagaland Olympic Association (NOA) Complex in
Kohima on Wednesday.
- Attending the celebration as the special guest, Helie
Riipreo, former president and advisor of the Nagaland Chess Association (NCA),
congratulated KDCA on its achievements since its inception in 2015, according
to an update.

- He lauded the association’s contributions to the chess
community and called for a more inclusive and collaborative approach going
forward.
- “Being the state capital, Kohima must set an example for
other districts. It is important that KDCA encourages active participation from
all communities and reflects the diversity of the city,” Riipreo stated. He
recommended expanding the executive body to include members from various
backgrounds, fostering a sense of unity and ownership.
- He also envisioned KDCA becoming a resource hub and role
model for other district chess associations across Nagaland while emphasising
the importance of transparency, accountability, and integrity in leadership.

- Highlighting the need to nurture young talent, Riipreo
encouraged the association to organise chess coaching camps and tournaments for
schoolchildren, especially during school holidays.
- Visanyiizo Kuotsu, founding president and advisor of KDCA,
also shared reflections on the journey of the association over the past decade.
- Also present at the event was Vekukho Soho, honorary
secretary of the Nagaland Chess Association.
