Dimapur, Feb. 21 (EMN): Heeding to the call of Pope Francis, the Diocese of Kohima (Catholic Church) has called for a day of prayer and fasting on February 23.
Pope Francis, at the conclusion of the Angelus Prayer on February 4 at Vatican, proposed a day of prayer and fasting for peace in the Democratic Republic of Congo, South Sudan and in the entire world to be held on February 23 of the first week of Lent.
Bishop’s House, Kohima, said the proposed day of prayer and fasting during this week is also relevant to Nagaland as it will go to poll on February 27. The bishop has invited all believers to observe the day for a peaceful election.
It stated that Pope Francis had urged the members of the church to take up the Lenten journey with enthusiasm, sustained by almsgiving, fasting and prayer. He proposed 24 hours for the Lord, during which all church community is to celebrate the sacrament of reconciliation in the context of Eucharistic adoration. This will take place on March 9 and 10, a press communication stated.
