- DIMAPUR — In response to the growing number of
forest fire incidents across the district, the Deputy Commissioner of Kohima, B
Henok Buchem, has reiterated a complete ban on the burning of jungles and
forested areas.
- According to a DIPR report, Buchem has issued an order
stating that, in light of the increasing incidents of forest fires reported
from various parts of the district, it has been observed that deliberate or
negligent burning of jungles and forested areas has significantly contributed
to the spread of such fires, resulting in damage to wildlife habitats and
public property and posing a serious threat to human lives.
- It stated that under Section 162 of BNSS, the DC Kohima,
being satisfied that such acts are public nuisances likely to cause disturbance
to public tranquillity and pose an imminent danger to life and property, has
reiterated the complete ban on the burning of forests for strict compliance by
all concerned.

- Any individual or group found violating the above directive
shall be liable for prosecution under the relevant sections of BNSS, the
Nagaland Forest Act, 1968, and the Rules of Administration of Justice and
Police in Nagaland, 1937.
