The Kohima court sentenced Zasituo Tsukru to one year in prison and a fine for assaulting a woman, reaffirming justice for women through coordinated prosecution efforts.

DIMAPUR — The Principal District and Sessions Court, Kohima, has convicted and sentenced Zasituo Tsukru to one year of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of INR 10,000 under Section 354 of the Indian Penal Code for assaulting a woman with intent to outrage her modesty.
The order was passed by Judge Mezivolu T Therieh on November 3. The case was investigated by Sub-Inspector Levinuo Nyuwi of the Women Police Station, Kohima, who collected evidence and filed the charge sheet, according to an update received here on Tuesday.
According to the prosecution, ten witnesses were examined during the trial, and the State, represented by Special Public Prosecutor L Sashimongla, established the guilt of the accused beyond reasonable doubt. In default of payment of the fine, the convict will undergo three months of simple imprisonment.
Additional Public Prosecutor Abraham said the conviction resulted from coordinated efforts between the police, prosecution and witnesses, and reaffirmed the prosecution’s commitment to ensuring justice for women. He also commended the courage of the survivor and acknowledged the investigating agency for its effective work.
