Dimapur, Sep. 27 (EMN): The Chief Medical Officer and Designated Officer, Kohima on Thur. issued a public advisory with regard to purchasing and consuming safe food.
The CMO and Designate officer, Kohima, Dr.Ritu Thurr, in a press release, asked the public to check and read the labels for information such as manufacturing date, best before date, FSSAI licence number on the package etc before purchasing any food item. Thurr also asked the public not to eat fast food wrapped in newspapers as the ink on the papers can contaminate the food product and affect the health; he also asked the citizens to avoid food high in fat, salt and sugar (HFSS). He also asked the citizens to see that the name and address of the importer in India is written on the package or containers of any imported food items.
Thurr, on behalf of the food safety regulators of Kohima district, appealed the consumers to participate and report to the office of the designated officer (chief medical officer) Kohima with regard to any food complaints. He further stated that the colony panchayats or youth organisations can also write to the CMO if joint inspection needs to be done with regard to food items in the colonies.
