KOHIMA, NOVEMBER 14: Coinciding with Children’s Day and joining hands with the rest of its partners across the country, CHILDLINE Kohima conducted a ‘CHILDLINE Se Dosti campaign.’ The campaign was conducted to create awareness on child related issues and to extend invitation to every citizen to support CHILDLINE in helping children in need of care and protection and to do their bit towards making the city a safer place for children.
Highlighting child related issues during the campaign held at Old MLA hostel junction this evening, Chairman of Child Welfare Committee, Khriehuzo Lohe said one of the major concerns is engaging children from neighbouring states as domestic helpers in many homes in the State. Lohe pointed out that those children were usually brought with the illusory promises of providing education and care. Lohe lamented that many ended up by being abused physically and emotionally and even denied of their due payment.
He informed that CHILDLINE Kohima, since its inception in the year 2014, had received more than 2000 calls and helped more than 300 children with various natures. CHILDLINE movement, he said, is coming out strongly to protect children against any form of abuse and those in need of care and protection.
He highlighted in brief the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO Act) 2012 formulated in order to effectively address sexual abuse and sexual exploitation of children.
While stating that its main objective was to create awareness among the general populace about the rights of the children and the various punishable offences under the law, Lohe has sought the cooperation and support of the public in this movement and save children from the cruel hands of abuse in any form.
Giving an introduction on CHILDLINE 1098 and CHILDLINE Se Dosti, Mhalesenuo Tepa informed that CHILDLINE Kohima is a 24X7 toll free emergency phone outreach service for children in need of care and protection.
Its services include missing children, abused children, run away children, medical assistance, child labour, street children, differently-abled children and all kinds of children in need of care and protection. The public was advised to dial 1098 whenever they see a child in distress.
The campaign began with a flash mob performed by the Dexterians and concluded with dosti pledge led by Obed Humtsoe and benediction said by Kedo Peseyie, Pastor City Church Kohima, followed by signature campaign.
