KOHIMA — The mysterious death of a man found on the morning of September 24 at the under-construction two-lane Kohima bypass road, below the helipad at Lerie colony, Kohima, has been clarified with the identification of the deceased as a policeman.


According to Kohima Police sources, the deceased has been identified as Zuchambemo Tungoe, who was attached to the State Crime Branch (SCB) of Nagaland Police at Police Headquarters (PHQ).


His parent unit, however, is from DEF Tuensang.


A post-mortem examination was conducted, following which the mortal remains were handed over to the family for final rites.

Police said the results of the full post-mortem report would take additional time, and the exact cause of death remains unconfirmed as investigations continue.


The body was discovered at around 6.23 am on Wednesday by a staff member of the road construction firm.


Police later recovered a mobile phone, a country-made pistol, an empty case, and a magazine from the deceased’s possession. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
