Kohima among 117 cities enlisted for liveability assessment

Dimapur, April 4 (EMN): The state capital of Kohima has been enlisted on the assessment of liveability index and rate cities as one amongst 117 cities across India. This was informed the Information Cell, Secretariat on Wednesday. A state orientation workshop held on April 4 on assessment of liveability indices in Chief Secretary’s conference hall in Kohima, with attendance of 21 line departments and stakeholders under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Temjen Toy. The chief secretary in his key note address in inaugural session said ‘liveability standards index’ is a mission and a project which basically is to improve the liveability of a particular city in the event of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Government of India. It is a mission for citizen comfortable life, he added. Stating that GOI decided to quantify 117 cities over the country undertaking this exercise into liveability index, Toy urged the heads of the departments for coordination towards the fulfillment of the mission. The state would be going to have planning and called upon the attention of all line Departments and stakeholders subsequently, he informed. Secretary of Urban department, Motsuthung who delivered the welcome address informed that departments have to nominate a nodal officer each to coordinate with the Urban Development department immediately as the time line left is 12 days adding that the web portal will be closed after April 16. Remarking that the state was a little behind the schedule particularly due to the state assembly election, however, he requested all the stakeholders and departments to give due emphasis on the activities of the mission. Nodal officer for Northeast, Dr. Natashori K gave a presentation on the overview of the liveability index, data entry portal progress monitoring dash board, key timeline and milestones and role of the coordinators. She further emphasised on the composition of the cities, understanding the stakeholders’ responsibilities, formulation of comprehensive city plan/master plan thereby serving as a concrete plan in achieving erstwhile sustainable development goals.
