KOHIMA NOVEMBER 12
Kohima is all set for implementation of Smart City project and for which Kohima Municipal Council has come forward up to generate the support and ideas of the citizens through social media like facebook, website, smart city blog and an open online portal. It has also started bulk alert smses for BSNL users.
Interacting with Eastern Mirror in his office chamber, Administrator KMC, Kovi Meyase, NCS said though the response is not upto the expectation, the ground work has started. Kovi said different people from various professions and backgrounds have been roped in to mobilize and create awareness among the public.
Unlike many other flagship programmes, Kovi said, this is a unique programme where citizens can participate right from the level of planning to the implementation. He therefore said, ‘when we have been granted and given the opportunity to plan for ourselves, we should grab it and involve ourselves fully.
He informed that consultants are going through the proposals of the general public and hopefully by next week 15 to 16 departments will be submitting their proposals which will be incorporated into the smart city plan. Later, he said, there will be a consultative meeting after all the proposals are compiled.
The administrator expressed happiness with the fact that people have embraced the idea of smart city and that there will be not much of a problem from the landowners to execute the project.
Coinciding with the mass social work on November 14, KMC is organising an open half marathon to create awareness among the general populace about smart city. The marathon will start off at 6 a.m. from PHQ via Razhii point and will culminate at MLA junction.
When asked about his view on Smart City project, Angami Public Organisation president Dr Vilhusa Seleyi opined that expansion of roads and drainage is the utmost need of the people.
“We have the potential for developing green fields and satellite city.”
When asked on the project, Angami Youth Organisation president, Medo Yhokha also said, despite all apprehensions against the project owing to numerous social and civil issues, the project should not be sabotaged or strangulated for any reasons.
‘For how long can we convince and fool ourselves that this is the level of development we can have and reach’ maintained Medo Yhokha. He said, government has to initiate and the public have to react positively. In this regard, AYO will see that the project is implemented without the culture of ‘percentage and share’, he added.
AYO said the project is not only meant for the Angamis but for all Nagas as Kohima being the capital. The AYO appealed to all the citizens to extend fullest cooperation and support towards successful implementation of the project.
