Hundreds of students joined the Akashvani Marathon 2026 in Kohima to celebrate 90 years of broadcasting in India.

KOHIMA — Hundreds of students from government high schools in Kohima participated in the Akashvani Marathon 2026, organised by Akashvani Kohima on Friday, as part of the nationwide commemoration marking 90 years of broadcasting in India.
The marathon was flagged off by Deputy Commissioner of Kohima B Henok Buchem from Old MLA Junction, Kohima, and culminated at High School Junction.
Students from six government schools participated in the event. The schools were Government High School, PWD Colony; Government High School, Chandmari I; Dr. Neilhouzhü Kire Government Higher Secondary School, Seikhazou; TM Government High School; PM SHRI Government High School, New Market; and Government High School, Forest Colony.
The closing ceremony was attended by Director of Youth Resources and Sports Kethosituo Sekhose, who also distributed prizes to the winners.
The winners in the boys’ category were Ketouselie from TM Government High School, Muying Phom from Government High School PWD, and Pherongwi from Government Higher Secondary School Seikhazou, who secured the first, second and third positions respectively.

Five consolation prizes were also awarded to Nokpai, Ruokuosielie, Neikuolie, Namdiheing and Aveto.
In the girls’ category, Vibeizonuo Neinu from Government Higher Secondary School Seikhazou, Yanhola from Government High School Chandmari, and Avisi Kire from Government Higher Secondary School Seikhazou secured the first, second and third positions respectively.
Consolation prizes were also awarded to Thsanshila, Dietholhoubeinuo Khezhie, Bedutalu, Azeno Rhutso and Telateu K Tara.
Winners in both categories received medals, certificates and cash prizes of INR 5000 for first place, INR 3000 for second place, and INR 2000 for third place.

Five consolation prizes of INR 1000 each were awarded in both categories.
Khriesaneisa Rutsa, programme executive (coordination) and nodal officer of the event, said the marathon was organised to promote public participation and awareness of the legacy of Akashvani while encouraging fitness and good health.
The marathon was organised in partnership with Miacheio Market, Peraciezie, and the National Health Mission under the Department of Health and Family Welfare, while the State Bank of India, Regional Business Office, Dimapur Region, sponsored the event.
