Kohima Oct. 1 (EMN): The deputy commissioner (DC) of Kohima, Rajesh Soundaranjan has cancelled 14 'non-existent publications' in Kohima district found listed with the Registrar of Newspaper for India (RNI).
Through an order issued on Monday, the DC cancelled the license of the following publishing units: Citizens Voice, Hill Express, Ketho Mu Kevi, Letter Mart, Naga Chronicle, Nagaland News, Naga Chronicle, Nagaland Observer, Peace Center News, Nagaland Times, The Naga Banner, The Naga Herald, The Naga Voice, and The North East Times.
The order was issued following a ‘spot-verification’ during which those publications ‘were found to be non-existent.’ The Kohima administration had acted on a letter from the state’s Directorate of Information and Public Relations seeking cancellation of ‘non-existent publications’ in Kohima district which have registered with the RNI.
The DC has asked the publications/publishers to submit objections, if any, within one month “to enable the office to submit the report to the higher authority and the RNI as required.”
Failure to comply with the directive, it stated, would mean those ‘non-existent publications’ are deemed cancelled as per the provisions of the Press and Registration of Books Act, 1867.
