Kohima, April 30 (EMN): Kohima unit of the Konyak Nyupuh Sheko Khong (KNSK), celebrated its 25th anniversary on Saturday on the theme 'Empowered women empower women.'
Speaking on the theme, the president of Konyak Union, Kohima, Pj Angnyei Konyak, stated that the celebration of day itself empowers women and urged the gathering to practice what has been preached. He stated that women have a big role to play in society as a mother. He also called upon the youngsters to compete along with the others.
“After graduation, do not expect parents to go to politicians/public leaders carrying your documents for a job. It is a competitive era and youngsters have to learn to shoulder one's responsibility,” Angnyei said.
Also speaking on the occasion, advisor of Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, Dr. Neikiesalie Kire, has stressed on unity and urged all tribes to be united for things to change.
“People talked about empowering women, but when looked deeper, this is the need of the hour,” Dr. Kire said and expressed confidence that women could bring about a lot of changes.
'Men should not restrict women but have to believe in them. It is time for us to change. What was there before should not continue,' he said and told the gathering to copy good examples.
The associate professor at Oriental Theological Seminary, Rev. Dr. Ellen Konyak Jamir, was the theme speaker of the celebration.
