The Karbi Nimso Chingthur Asong (KNCA), an influential Karbi women's organisation, has called for a united fight against atrocities and sexual abuse on women in Karbi Anglong.

A statement issued by the organisation said anti-social activities including case of kidnapping, human trafficking and sexual abuse of women, are on the rise in Karbi Anglong.

The recent incident of a businessman in Diphu town caught red-handed in a compromising position with a woman is another instance of rise in immoral activities in the district.

The social organisations including student bodies and Karbi traditional village heads should come forward to unitedly fight to free the society from such anti-social activities, the KNCA appealed.

The KNCA also asked the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KNCA) authority not to give appointment to the traditional village headmen having more than one wife for the post of president in the village Council. The KNCA said it is not lawful for a person having more than one wife to take the post of president in the village council.
