Kohima, March 17 (EMN): Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) has been trying to create awareness about Covid-19 through hoardings and banners containing medical helpline in Nagamese, Tenyidie and English by handing out out pamphlets to the citizens of Kohima.
KMC office secretary, Zakiekhotuo Kiso informed Eastern Mirror that around ten thousand pamphlets were given out at High School, Razhü Point, PHQ and Phoolbari and about 300 copies were given to each ward to spread awareness. While sharing that KMC does not have a medical cell unlike other municipal councils, he stated that they wanted to create awareness about the basic things in a small way. He informed that they would give out pamphlets to the churches and newspaper hawkers so that it could reach the households.
“Main concept of distributing pamphlets in the streets is to reach to our neighbouring villages and satellite towns,” he said. He mentioned that as per the instruction of the government, they have given directives to the hotels and restaurants union in Kohima to coordinate with the Medical department if any tourist visit their hotels.
He informed that tourists have been asked to vacate hotels and home stays adding there are no more booking as of now.
“In our state there are no positive cases; so far so good and God forbid that coronavirus do not reach us,” he said. He also informed that they would sensitise the sanitation workers from March 18 in batch-wise and give them masks, gloves and jackets.
“We will go to certain butchering and slaughtering houses along with the veterinary doctors and see that it is hygienically slaughtered and being sold,” Kiso informed.
He added that they would continue to create awareness and try their best to keep the city clean but needs the full cooperation of the citizens by keeping their area clean and not throwing random wastes. He expressed that under smart city, KMC is also trying to keep the city green and beautiful and there has been “drastic improvement in cleanliness.”
"We do not have medical wing and we are just creating awareness but our Medical department is also gearing up and we will be coordinating with them in identifying certain public places where we can do some fogging," he stated. He stated that they would continue to work not only for the Covid- 19 but also for clean and hygienic food.
He opined that people are still selling live wild animals in the market, especially those coming from villages and asserted that they will discourage them from selling them, even to the extent of seizing their animals. “We will try to sensitise the vegetable vendors and focus more on the cleanliness aspect,” he informed.
He further stated that in the meeting with the district commissioner (DC) on March 12, the DC had requested the drug inspector to strictly check on the prices of masks and sanitisers being sold at higher prices than the retail price. He added that KMC would also check such activities on their part.
“DC has requested the drug inspectors to write to the Medical department and state government to arrange masks from some main source instead of the dealers,” he further informed.
