Dimapur, April 5 (EMN): An initiative of Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) and the Music Task Force (MTF), the culmination concert for ‘No to plastics and yes to clean elections,’ would be held on April 6 at Old MLA Hostel junction, Kohima, at 6 pm.
To spread awareness on the hazardous effects of plastic pollution, a series of concerts were held in all the 19 wards of Kohima town, and few prominent locations in the town. The concerts have featured choirs from various churches, bands and prominent artistes.
KMC administration, Kovi Meyase, stated that it has reached out to educational institutions in and around Kohima town and would soon organise an exclusive awareness concert for them. On the request of Kohima Science College, he informed that a similar awareness concert would be held on April 6.
Meyase further informed that it would soon organise an exclusive sensitisation concert for the police personnel too. He appealed the general to come and be a part of the culmination programme on April 6 towards a cleaner and healthier lifestyle, as well as enjoyed the music.
In a separate release, KMC informed all the panchayat and wards sanitation committees that it has taken over the solid waste management facilities at Lerie with effect from April 3.
KMC made this decision after observing that all garbage/ wastes deposited at present are found to be un-segregated and directly dumped into the scientific landfill which has caused the landfill site to be filled up beyond its capacity.
It informed all concerned that only wet wastes would be allowed entry into the landfill site till the recycling plant is made operational.
All wards are directed to take their garbage/wastes to the Dzürüzou dumping site till further notice.
