KOHIMA, SEPTEMBER 13: Taking a step towards safeguarding the health of the sanitary workers of the Kohima Municipal Council (KMC), Department of Labour, Government of Nagaland, distributed various safety gears to its employees today at KMC conference hall.
The sanitary workers were provided helmet, shoes, jackets and hand gloves. At present, there are 32 employees working under KMC as sanitary workers.
It was informed that these sanitary workers, till this day, have been working without any health covers with few holidays. Leaving aside the national holidays, it was informed that KMC sanitary workers do not enjoy holidays even on Sundays, Christmas and New Year.
Speaking at the function, Labour Commissioner, Er. L Nungshiyanger Aier, assured to do the needful in providing all necessary equipments to the workers. The distribution of sanitary gears is carried out under the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), Aier informed.
KMC administrator, Kovi Meyase, in his address, stated on the need to provide more safety equipments equipment to the employees such as air mask, safety glasses (spectacles) etc. Provided with the new equipments, KMC administrator urged the employees to work with more sincerity and commitment.
Speaking on behalf of the sanitation team, Neilhouphrelie Paphino, KMC senior sanitary inspector, thanked the Labour department for providing the necessary equipments.
The distribution function was also attended by other officials from the Labour department and KMC.
