
Dimapur, Feb. 18 (EMN): An awareness-cum-free medical health camp for Karamcharis (sanitary workers) was organised by the Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) in the presence of National Commission for Safai Karamcharis chairman, Manhar Valji Bhai Zala, and his visiting team on February 18 at KMC office, Kohima.
Speaking at the awareness programme, Zala stated that the Prime Minister of India launched the programme and schemes to benefit every lower section of the citizen through the awareness campaign. He pointed out that no work was small or big and it should be the duty of every individual to keep their surroundings clean for a healthy life.
He has assured to address the grievances of sanitary workers at the earliest.
He expressed gratitude to the KMC and Kohima district administration for the successful conduct of the programme. He also gave away the best Karamcharis certificate along with cash to the sanitary workers.
Deputy Commissioner, Kohima, Gregory Thejawelie thanked Zala and his visiting team for showing their determination towards bringing a change in the lives of sanitary workers. He also thanked the various departments for their participation and encouraged them to not only create awareness about various programme and schemes but to be connected with the sanitary workers in their respective offices.
He advised the departmental officials to begin their programmes and ensure that schemes and programmes are reached out to the workers. He also suggested KMC to set up a cell in the office with few dedicated staff to tie up with various line departments. He also encouraged to start an information-based system with a more systematic arrangement to address the issues.
Besides, he also requested the departments to immediately carry forward the programmes and ensure that all the sanitary workers are given the opportunity to avail the schemes.
KMC administrator, Kovi Meyase, thanked Zala for the visit and making them aware of the rights and privileges of the Safai Karamcharis to live a respectable life in the society. Meyase mentioned that many people have begun to acknowledge the works of karamcharis through the commission’s commitment towards the welfare of sanitary workers.
Various line departments including, Education department, state legal services authority, Municipal Affairs, Lead Bank, Medical department and Skills Development and Entrepreneurs shared on the schemes and programmes.
