Dimapur, Nov. 28 (EMN): With only two days to go before the Hornbill Festival 2018 kick-starts, the Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) has issued certain advisories for the ward panchayats/authorities, the public transport operators and the public for strict compliance so as to keep the city clean and hygienic during the whole festive season.
The KMC administrator, Kovi Meyase, through an office order, informed all the ward Panchayat chairman/convenor of sanitation committee under the jurisdiction of Kohima Municipal Council that the “road to Lerie scientific landfill site will be opened” from Dec. 1; however, only vehicles carrying “segregated waste” will be allowed to enter, he said.
In other separate order, the KMC administrator notified the public that the timing for disposal of garbage into to garbage bins at designated locations starts specifically from 6 pm onwards, and the KMC workers are to collect and dispose the garbage every morning. However, Meyase said some individuals and business establishments are ‘habitually’ dumping garbage even during the daytime in violation of the restrictions.
Therefore, the KMC reminded the public to stop indulging in such undesirable and irresponsible activities. Saying that any attempt to keep the town clean and sanitised will fail as long as the desired public support is not forthcoming, the KMC asked the citizens to strictly adhere to the stipulated timings and said that appropriate action will be initiated against the violators.
Moreover, the KMC informed all the public transport operators within the municipal area not to sweep/clean their vehicles and dump the waste materials on the roads/roadside or the designated parking lots. The KMC appealed all the vehicle users/public transport operators to keep portable dustbin inside their respective vehicle to collect the waste and dispose it only at the KMC designated garbage collection points. Anyone found littering of disposing such waste will be penalised with immediate effect as per the appropriate Solid Waste Management Rules, the KMC warned.
