DPDB Kohima felicitates govt school HSLC toppers

CHIEF Executive Office of the Kohima Municipal Council (CEO KMC) has directed the Tata Mobile users parked opposite to Keziekie Market to shift to their designated location near the Census Office to facilitate footpath vendors to sell their goods.
Presenting report on footpath vendors during the monthly meeting of the District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) on May 15 at Zonal Council Hall under the chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner, Kohima, W Honje Konyak, CEO KMC, Lithrongla Tongpi, said there is no designated location for the footpath vendors. In this regard, she has directed the Tata Mobiles users parked opposite to Keziekie Market to shift to their designated location near Census Office to let the footpath vendors be seated there. She also encouraged setting up daily markets in all the wards on the availability of space.
ADC Planning, Ketoho Luho, has reminded the house about the quarterly progress on PM’s New 15 Point Programme and requested the implementing departments to furnish the progress report on time.
The house was also informed that the exposure trip to the cleanest village in Asia, Mawlynnong in Meghalaya would be undertaken tentatively in the first week of June.
The proposal regarding the creation of new RD Block at Viswema was deferred to the next meeting.
Meanwhile, Kohima DPDB has organized the 6th felicitation programme of the HSLC examination toppers from among the Government Schools under Kohima district on May 15 at Zonal Council Hall, Kohima, with the Principal Director of School Education, Kesonyu Yhome, as the chief guest.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest said that the toppers from the Government schools have set a benchmark for the younger students to follow, not only in their respective schools but all the Government schools in the State as a whole. He has expressed happiness with the management and the teaching faculty of both the Government schools for the good results.
Mentioning that of late the Education Department is in the news for all the wrong reasons, Kesonyu said one of the biggest weaknesses in the Department is the poor mechanism in the grassroots level which has to be looked into. He has, therefore, appealed to all the DPDB members to bring specific problems to the notice of higher authorities like absentee teachers, proxy and bogus teachers and serious mismanagement of funds etc. While acknowledging on the acute shortage of Maths and Science teachers as well as Hindi teachers in many Government schools, he said the government is trying to come up with certain policies to address the problems. He further stated that there are a lot of drop-out cases in higher classes due to the non-detention policy.
The chief guest gave away the Kohima DPDB HSLC Topper Awards to Sunny Kumar Singh from Government High School, Botsa, for securing 7th position in HSLC Examination 2014, and Metsivilie Seyie from Rüzükhrie GHSS Kohima for securing 9th position in HSLC Examination 2014. The award carries a cash reward of Rs 15,000 each with a certificate.
Both the toppers in their speech have thanked their respective school teachers for encouraging them and giving them confidence.
The Headmasters of both the Government Schools praised the toppers for bringing laurels to the school and thanked the teachers for guiding the students well. President of APO and Member of Core Committee DPDB, Keneingunyu Sekhose, and parents of both the toppers also spoke in the programme.
The vote of thanks was delivered by District Education Officer, Kohima, Senthang, while ADC Planning and Member Secretary DPDB, Kohima, Ketoho Luho, delivered the introductory speech. The programme was chaired by Deputy Commissioner and Vice Chairman DPDB, Kohima, W Honje Konyak.
