KOHIMA — The Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) conducted Safaimitra Suraksha Shivir medical camp for sanitation workers and their families, at its office complex at its office on Monday.
The camp, held in association with NHAK and UPHC Seikhazou, was for sanitation workers and drivers attached to ward, sector, colony, village/ area and market sanitation vehicles (who utilise Dzürüzou landfill) and their families.
Administrator of KMC, Lanusenla Longkumer, informed that this is the second camp held this year, to create awareness among the workers about their health and also about the safety measures.
The administrator maintained that her office has also made a rule that whoever is caught working without gloves, their wages will be deducted to let the workers realise that it is better for them to be safe.
Pointing out the workers are not healthy and their lifespan is also short while many of them develop TB at a very early stage, Longkumer informed that periodic check-ups and health camps will ensure proper medication and early detection of sickness and diseases.
It was informed that KMC has 130 sanitation workers, excluding those attached to wards and nearby villages. Waste management in Kohima is decentralised wherein the wards have their own vehicles and workers and KMC focuses on public areas and spaces.
She acknowledged the health workers for coming forward to avail services of the health camp.
On the occasion, various facilities and services such as consultation, free medicine after consultation and others were provided to the sanitation workers.
