A legislator has asked the Gorkha community to exert efforts in “preparing and maintaining their ‘descendant list’” so that “unnecessary hassles could be avoided” in future. The Minister of Environment, Forests & Climate Change, Dr. Neikesalie Kire, told the Gorkha community during a recent event inaugurating a community facility in Kohima town.
The Gorkha Public Panchayat of Kohima has opened a commercial block in its community building located in Chandmari, in the town. The newly-constructed commercial block was inaugurated Staurday evening by the minister amid a gathering of members of the Gorkha community and their well-wishers.The two-storied building will house various establishments such as an ATM booth, retail and shops, and vocational studies centers, among others. In his brief address, Dr. Neikesalie Kire lauded the Gorkha Public Panchayat for independently constructing a building that would now be catering to the public with various services. He hoped that more such initiatives would be taken up by the people, with each individual contributing in own capacity.
While encouraging the Gorkha community to continue their efforts in contributing to the society for peaceful coexistence, he also asked them to give more efforts ‘in preparing and maintaining their ‘descendant list’ so that unnecessary hassles could be avoided in future’. He further assured the community of any possible assistance when needed.
During the event, the president of the Panchayat, Santu Thapa, offered a brief background of the functions of the community organization. Also, he offered details about the ways the newly-inaugurated commercial block would be allocated. He acknowledged individuals who supported and contributed to the construction of the building.
