Kiphire Police have cautioned the public against suspected spurious and adulterated liquor, urging people to avoid unsealed, counterfeit or illegally sold alcohol and report suspected cases.
DIMAPUR — The Kiphire Police have issued a public awareness advisory urging people to avoid suspected spurious or adulterated liquor following reports of deaths in an adjoining district allegedly linked to consumption of such liquor.
In the advisory, the police described the reported incidents as a serious public health and safety concern and advised the public not to consume liquor that is unsealed, suspicious, illegally sold, counterfeit or lacks proper labelling.
People have also been cautioned against purchasing liquor from unknown or unauthorised sources or consuming products offered in reused or tampered bottles.
The advisory urged anyone who develops symptoms after consuming suspected adulterated liquor to seek immediate medical attention.

Warning signs include vomiting, severe stomach pain, dizziness, blurred vision, confusion, breathing difficulty and unconsciousness.
The police advised against inducing vomiting or giving the affected person more alcohol or unverified home remedies.
If it can be done safely, the bottle or any remaining liquor should be preserved for examination by the authorities.
The public has also been urged not to share or resell suspected liquor and to report cases of suspected illegal or adulterated liquor to the nearest police station.
