Dimapur, June 29 (EMN): International Day of Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was observed at DC’s Conference Hall, Kiphire on June 26, under the theme “Listen first- Listening to children and youth is the first to help them grow healthy and safe”.
Delivering a speech DC, Kiphire, Sedevikho Khro encouraged parents to be role a model and protect their child from drug and illicit trafficking. He also appealed to the gathering to have concern for the safety and health of their children.
Medical Officer, District Hospital, Dr. Kevi in his message on drug abuse stated that most of the people in the district use chemical substances like alcohol, marijuana and sulfadoxine pyrimethamine (SP). The excessive use of these substances can cause brain, liver damage and even lead to overdose, he said. He also apprised that the District Hospital had opened OSD centre for free medication for those who are addicted to drugs.SDPO, Kiphire, KhuzaJurry speaking on the topic ‘illicit trafficking’ lamented that most of the illicit transportation of illegal substance are done by innocent man and women. He advised the stakeholders to be open and report when such case arise.
Welcome address was delivered by SDO(C), Longtiba L. Sangtam, while SDO (C), James T. Khulu Tikhir proposed vote of thanks. The programme was attended by officials from District Administration, Police officers, Medical officer, student leaders, NGOs and chairmen of all the eleven wards.
