Kiphire District GBs’ Association opposes the short-term National Highway-202 maintenance contract and seeks a review.
DIMAPUR — The Kiphire District GBs’ Association has opposed the short-term maintenance contract declared for National Highway-202 and called for a review of the decision, while seeking greater attention to the district’s long-pending road connectivity and development needs.
The association raised the matter separately through a representation submitted to the deputy commissioner (DC) of Kiphire and a press release issued on Wednesday.
In its representation to the DC, the association placed on record its “strong opposition” to the short-term maintenance contract declared for NH-202.
While acknowledging the importance of road maintenance for public convenience, it expressed concern that the long-pending and genuine developmental needs of Kiphire district continued to receive inadequate attention.
It stated that many districts in Nagaland were already benefiting from two-lane and four-lane road infrastructure, while Kiphire district continued to struggle for proper and reliable connectivity. According to the association, such unequal development caused hardship to the people and raised questions of fairness, equity and equal treatment.

Through the representation, the association requested the DC’s intervention and urged the official to convey its concerns to the appropriate higher authorities. It also requested that the long-term development needs of Kiphire district be given serious consideration in the larger interest of public welfare and balanced regional development.
The association stated that the representation was submitted in the spirit of justice, fairness and constitutional equality.
Separately, in its press release, the association termed its opposition to the short-term maintenance contract for NH-202 “strong and unequivocal” and stated that any decision affecting public infrastructure must be guided by fairness, transparency and equal regard for the interests of all affected districts.
It stated that while many districts in Nagaland had been benefiting from two-lane and four-lane roads for some time, Kiphire district continued to face neglect in matters of basic road connectivity.
The association maintained that the longstanding and urgent developmental needs of the district should not be overlooked and stated that every citizen was entitled to equal development, safe connectivity and just treatment under the Constitution and the rule of law.
The association urged the DC to convey their concerns to the appropriate higher authorities, requesting that the long-term development needs of the district be taken into serious consideration for balanced regional development.
Furthermore, the association called upon the competent authority to review the decision and take immediate and appropriate steps to address the genuine concerns of the district in an equitable and responsible manner.
