Dimapur, April 12 (EMN): The new advisor to the department of New and Renewable Energy Mmhonlumo Kikon has assured his best to working toward achieving the objectives of his new charge. He felt that new and renewable energy was the solution to meeting the challenges of modern problems such as Climate Change.
The legislator was addressing officers and staff of the department of New and Renewable Energy during a reception that was organized for the newly appointed advisor by the establishment in the department’s office in Kohima on April 12.
According to updates from the Information and Publicity department on Thursday, the new advisor thanked his colleagues for the ‘pleasant’ gesture that was shown to him. He assured to work toward making the department’s progress ‘all round’ and to help solve issues in the establishment.
‘Climate Change cannot be predicted and is a major issue now, but NRE is the solution to it,’ he was quoted to have said during the reception. New and renewable energy has a high potential to grow as it will impact thousands of life in Nagaland, he said. He said to be looking forward to the contribution of every worker in the establishment to achieve set targets.
Speaking about new and renewable energy projects, the legislator was confident that ‘unfinished projects’ would be ‘completed soon.’ He assured to help find solutions and bring operation assistance from outside the state if required, the updates stated.
The advisor has requested his department to initiate some ‘real success stories.’ He hoped that the new office of the New and Renewable Energy department would be completed soon. He has urged the officers and staff of the department to ‘raise up their spirits’ and ‘get prepared to work.’
The director of New and Renewable Energy Kavito Chishi delivered the welcome address. He mentioned that the new advisor will lead and guide them in every way possible. Chishi said that a number of projects had been completed but some were ‘temporarily halted because of the funding process.’ He requested Kikon to intervene in the pending projects so that they may be implemented at the right time.
The department deliberated on other issues such as shortage of manpower for operation and maintenance. Besides, they discussed issues about creating posts, and about framing new service rules, the update from the Information and Publicity department added.
About renewable energy
Renewable energy is energy that is collected from renewable resources, which are naturally replenished on a human timescale, such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides, waves, and geothermal heat. Renewable energy often provides energy in four important areas: electricity generation, air and water heating/cooling, transportation, and rural (off-grid) energy services.
The definition of new and renewable energy sources generally includes energy sources including solar energy, geothermal energy, wind power, hydropower, ocean energy (thermal gradient, wave power and tidal power), biomass, draught animal power, fuel wood, peat, oil shale and tar sands.
Renewable energy, also known as ‘green energy’, is electricity powered by natural sources such as the wind, water, and the sun. Renewable energy offers a carbon-free alternative to traditional fossil fuels.
Fossil fuels are non-renewable, that is, they draw on finite resources that will eventually dwindle, becoming too expensive or too environmentally damaging to retrieve. In contrast, the many types of renewable energy resources-such as wind and solar energy-are constantly replenished and will never run out.
