Kohima, July 13 (EMN): Following the massive landslide which affected 21 houses at Peraciezie colony under High School area in Kohima, the former MLA of 10th Northern Angami-1 Assembly Constituency, Khriehu Liezietsu visited the landslide area today.
Talking to Eastern Mirror over the phone, Thepfukhrietuo Rüpreo, judicial secretary of Peraciezie colony informed that the former MLA provided some immediate relief to the affected households including the house owners and the displaced families during his visit.
The former MLA also had a meeting with the colony leaders, thereafter which, they decided to organise a mass social work on Saturday to construct a dam/barrier and drain as an immediate measure below the sinking portion. To this, Khriehu has assured to sponsor all the expenses for the mass social work, it was informed.
Meanwhile, the colony leaders have also requested all the men folks of High School Ward No. 1 to take part in the mass social work on Saturday which will commence at 8 a.m. The members have been asked to come along with dao and spade on the day.
It was also informed that the District Disaster Management Authority, as part of immediate relief, has granted Rs 2,000 to each house owner, while Rs 2,800 has been extended to all the displaced families. In this regard, all the affected house owners and displaced families, who have not received their share of relief have been asked to contact the judicial secretary of the colony.
Also informing that Khriehu Liezietsu has provided 10 bags of rice for the displaced families, all the affected households have been asked to approach the colony panchayat chairman Khrielakuo Mepfhü-o and avail their share.
As for the soil erosion, it reportedly remained normal today as the State capital was blessed with a pleasant weather. However, there are chances of the land sinking again if heavy downpour continuous in the next couple of days.
The Deputy Commissioner, Kohima, Rajesh Soundararajan also visited the landslide area today, it was informed.
