DIMAPUR — With an aim to steer youth away from substance abuse and towards academic excellence, the Village Adoption Committee of 8 A/C Western Angami and the 7 Assam Rifles Sechü-Zubza organised a Football Penalty Shootout tournament at the Christian Welfare School in Khonoma village on the theme "Get High on Grades - Not on Drugs” on Friday.
The Khonoma Students’ Union lifted the championship title, while Khonoma Youth Organization "C" were declared the first runners-up and the Baptist Khriesarüü Krotho secured second runners-up position, updated DPRO Kohima.
Cash prizes were awarded to the winners and sports equipment donated to the Christian Welfare School. A total of 13 teams participated in the tournament, it was informed.
Speaking at the event, SDO (C) Sechü-Zubza, Athrong, emphasised the importance of prioritising education over succumbing to the allure of drugs and urged the participants to become responsible members of society and serve as ambassadors in the fight against drug abuse.
A medical camp was conducted simultaneously at the Community Hall in Khonoma Village, extending essential healthcare services to the community. A total of 198 individuals, including 91 males, 57 females and 50 children benefited from free medical check-up and received complimentary medicines.
