Dimapur. Nov. 15 (EMN): Khiamniungan Cultural Club (KCC) in Tuensang district celebrated its silver jubilee at Tuensang town hall on November 15 on the theme “To preserve and affirm our culture” with B Bumo Khiamniungan, registrar of co-operative societies, as the special guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Bumo has stressed on the need to rejuvenate and conserve the rich culture and tradition of the Nagas. He expressed concern over the influence of western culture among young people in the modern society.
“Under such circumstances, many young people do not know their own culture of hard work, discipline, obedience, respect and tolerance. Therefore, we must never neglect one’s own culture but rather preserved and promote,” Bumo said.
Stating that culture is a way of life, he urged the gathering to preserve them with clear conscience in order to maintain one’s own identity. Convenor of media cell M Shiu stated this in a press release.
Also pointing out that organic farming was part of Nagas farming culture, he stated that with the advancement in technologies, many farmers are resorting to use different pesticides in the cultivation of crops and vegetables which are harmful for health. He encouraged to continue practicing healthy culture of organic farming.
He also advised to inculcate honesty and truthfulness and never miss the opportunities in life for personal and community development. He further encouraged the gathering to persevere towards realisation of those opportunities to meet the requirements of life through hard work and sincerity in their daily activities.
CKS president, assistant research officer of Art and Culture department, TVCU president, and KUT president also spoke in the programme.
Folk tunes were presented by KCC women group and P Khumo and friends. P Pheniang and friends also presented song in the programme.
On the occasion, exhibition cum sale stalls were also setup to showcase various unique cultural items and organic farming crops and vegetables.
