
Dimapur, June 24 (EMN): Amid the surging second wave of Covid pandemic, Khensa village in Mokokchung district made a significant achievement in the battle against the pandemic by vaccinating Covishield to all eligible population within its jurisdiction.
The village council has attributed the success to proper coordination of Khensa village council and convergence between NSRLM Ongpangkong south block and department of Health and Family Welfare, Mokokchung. It added that grassroots mobilisation by NSRLM SHGs, church leaders and door-to-door surveillance by the Khensa village community surveillance team (ASHA, NSRLM community cadres and Anganwadi) did a groundbreaking job of capturing accurate data and convincing the mass to take the vaccine.
It stated that 40% of the population were vaccinated prior to the special convergence intervention by NSRLM and the medical department. It added that 313 eligible beneficiaries took the jab during the 1st phase on June 17, while another 255 eligible beneficiaries were vaccinated on June 22 completing the figure to a cent percent.
It stated that the Mokokchung district immunisation officer, Dr. Ayangla Saku, and her team of medical personnel have provided necessary manpower and logistics to be covered during the entire vaccination drive.
In the pursuit to achieve 100 % vaccination, the council chairman, Imtitoshi, remarked that Khensa village’s close vicinity to urban areas posed a risk factor of community spreading and there was an imminent need for its population to be vaccinated.
Meanwhile, the village council has acknowledged the medical team led by Dr. Ayangla Saku and staff, EAC Ongpangkong Sangpangjang, MO Dr. Asenla and nurse from Sapangya PHC Amenla, nurse from Kumlong Tzüdikumla, staff of Khensa medical sub-centre, surveillance committee Khensa, Khensa students’ union, NSRLM block programme manager of Ongpangkong South Imkongtoshi, NSRLM area coordinator Maynaro Jamir, and the cooperation extended by the eligible beneficiaries of the village.
