Dimapur, Dec. 29 (EMN): The three-day Khensa Students Union (KST) 75th year jubilee celebration commenced on Sat. at Multipurpose Community Hall with the theme ‘Progress in harmony.’
The event is said to have started with the opening act presented by Dimapur Khensa Students’ Union.
“Jubilee celebrations offer us an occasion to thank the almighty God to make possible the growth, a time of joy and thanksgiving and also to appreciate the past, celebrate the present and aspire the future,” Director Food and Civil Supply Asangla Imti, stated in her message.
“As we celebrate it, we should be able to showcase our achievements, past and current and sought to bring out the best in the future. It is time to reflect whether we are preserving our rich heritage and whether we are enhancing our image or whether there has been some detritions,” Imti said.
Exhorting the students present, she said that degree itself is not enough and that one should strive for excellence. “Education is not only about book knowledge but to know one’s own root, culture and tradition. This disciplines us,” she said.
“We are learning to adjust rifts and divisions in our society but in the process, we have lowered our aims and expectations. It is time to regain our heritage and wisdom to enrich our lives,” she added.
Sharing concerns about the deteriorating quality of society, Imti pointed out that “what we need today is to home-grow our model of development based on our inherent strengths. We need a paradigm shift in our mindset and to gain momentum and confidence to act as a driver of change in the society. This requires realization of true potential and the commitment to serve the people in the right track.”
Encouraging the students, she said responsibility of using these values with outstanding skills is with the youth of today. And to shoulder all these responsibilities and to fulfill the aspiration of oneself and the society and to rise to the challenges ahead, the main driving force is faith in God.
The Khensa Village Council chairman, Y Chuba Longchar challenged the gathering to look back to the past 75 years and recount the blessings from God. Encouraging them to seek the knowledge and guidance from the pioneers, he called upon the community to strive to achieve what they are lacking in. He also said only honest, pure and trustworthy people can achieve success.
Principal DIET, Mokokchung Tianaro Jamir urged the students to be more united and prayerful. She said that the village should be the foremost stating that it is their identity. There should be a sense of belongingness and pride about one’s own village,” she said.
She advised the students not to become a dependent unemployed educated youth.
Jmair further urged student leaders and village and church authorities to enhance quality education in the government schools in order to develop productive citizens.
As part of the platinum jubilee, the KSU organized a medical camp on Dec. 29 at GMS Khensa. Altogether it claimed that 250 people availed the medical aid and 150 undertook blood test.
Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Election Imkong L Imchen will exhortation the sencon day session on Saturday while Dr. Principal Kohima College Watijungsshi will be the main speaker.
