Kohima, April 25 (EMN): Students of Khelhoshe Polytechnic in Atoizu of Zunheboto have been left in a quandary reportedly as the authorities in concern have not conducted practical examinations that were supposed to be held on Tuesday. The reason is due to ‘non-payment’ of their salary for ‘‘seven months’’ to the contract lecturers by the government, it was informed.
A press release was issued on Tuesday by Hinovi T Achumi, president of the Khelhoshe Polytechnic Atoizu Students’ Union (KPASU).
The KPASU has sought immediate action. Students require a peaceful environment and to progress, the union stated. ‘If necessary action is not taken and they continue to remain silent, the government will be held fully responsible for taking a student’s career for granted,’ a press release stated.
Referring to a similar incident earlier, it was stated that the ‘contract lecture even refused to declare the session results for the students but keeping in mind the career of the students they were given ‘‘verbal assurance” by the government and they agreed on that matter.’
The press release also stated that the delay in results would be affecting their final academic year if the examinations are not conducted on time.
“Everyone deserves their wages when they rendered their service but the authorities remained silent for which students especially the final year students are bound to face huge problems if the results are delayed. Advertisements for the degree are knocking and still, exams haven’t started yet.”
The union lamented that “the authority are playing with the future of the students by not paying the salary of the lecturer’s in time. A year will be back (fail ) for all the students if exams are not taken in time.”
