Dimapur, January 27
While the language sounds polite, the resentment and warning in the tone was not lost. A village in Dimapur district has asked ‘encroachers’ to restrain themselves from ‘unpalatable practices’ to ensure ‘peaceful coexistence.’
Khehoi Village Council of the village by the same name, under Dhansiripar sub-division of Dimapur district, issued a press release on Wednesday, January 27 making clear to “all concerned who has encroached upon the land” of the village, that encroachment will not be tolerated.
The council did not mention who the alleged encroachers were or whether they were individuals or villages. The council has said that the ‘rest of the encroached land’ should be vacated by the 29th of February.
“It has come to the notice of the village council that individuals belonging to adjoining areas are encroaching upon our village land without any legal sanction. This may lead to land disputes in the near future between neighbors which is the last thing the Khehoi village desires,” the press release stated.
“Therefore, the Khehoi village council would like to urge upon the responsible individuals to restrain themselves from this unpalatable practice to ensure cordial co-existence between neighboring villages and for the good of all concerned.”
The council said that this “may be taken in all seriousness and defiance of the same may lead to unnecessary situation for which the Khehoi village will not be held responsible in any manner whatsoever.”
The Khehoi Village Council also clarified that the plots procured by an organization and an individual does not come under the purview of this notice.
“The rest of the encroached land should be vacated within 29th of February 2016,” the council added.
The press release as appended by Kughalu Yepthomi, chairman of Khehoi Village Council.
